Drogheda Independent

Joe McGillion and St Joe’s days

-

JOE McGillion whom many will remember as an excellent and sorely missed teacher in St. Josephs CBS, returned to Drogheda for the day, and decided to pay a visit to the Drogheda Independent to see some of his old friends.

Joe, who is now retired from teaching after 30 years, is living in Dublin and actively devoting himself to a well deserved life of leisure.

He educated many of Drogheda’s most noted citizens during his years here and was involved in many of the town’s clubs, including the Catholic Club (of which he was President), the Monknewtown Macra Na Feirme, and the local branch of the Gaelic League. Originally from Omagh, Joe moved to Drogheda after he graduated from U.C.D.

He specialised in Latin and Irish, although Joe taught many other subjects in jis time, and gave many a much needed “grind” in his house on the Chord Road.

Many a student will recall his strident cry of “I hope you know it” in the classrooms of the CBS many moons ago.
