Annual FF meeting hears backing for Anthony Moore

-

THE Fianna Fail South Louth East Meath Comhairle Ceantair AGM was held last week, with a big attendance from all the cumainn in the area.

The officers elected on the night for the coming year were Richard Cooney, Chairman, Christy Faulker, Vice- Chairman, Tomas O hEochaidh, Secretary, John Kierans, Treasurer, Garret O’Brien, Vice-Treasurer and Anthony Moore, PRO.

Summing up the year gone by, Chairman Cooney said that there had been a huge increase in membership in the South Louth East Meath area, and that the party was now on an election footing locally, with the aim of getting two seats in Louth and East Meath at the next election.

He paid tribute to Anthony Moore for coming second at the recent selection convention and for his work in flying the Fianna Fail flag locally. He hoped he would be added to the party’s general election ticket along with the incumbent TD, as he had the support of the branches all around the area. His views were seconded by the members present, who endorsed Anthony as their candidate.

As the only person who contested the selection convention, he proved he had the support of the grassroots members and the wider community and was capable of taking the first FF seat in Drogheda for 50 years. As one member said “Anthony can put the ball in the net for Drogheda. We’ve had enough of the hurlers on the ditch, doing nothing for the town since 2011. It’s time for change. It’s time for a local FF TD”.

A lively discussion on local topics followed, with all members looking forward to the Fleadh in August and the boost it would give the town economically and culturally. Anthony Moore said “Drogheda, South Louth and East Meath are going to be centre-stage this year. Visitors are going to be amazed by what’s on offer with our great shops, bars and restaurants and all the history and culture of a thousand year old town. The Fleadh is going to be a massive boost for our town and its traders and we cannot wait to extend a great Drogheda welcome to all our guests.”
