TIME FOR ACTION DECLARES MAYOR

-

MAYOR Pio Smith feels the Derelict Site Act needs to be activitated to help clean up the appearance of Narrow West Street with the Fleadh Cheoil looming large.

“I have been working with officials in Louth County Council in regards to having Narrow West Street cleaned up for the Fleadh. The Council have contacted owners of some of the properties with a view to reaching agreement on making shop fronts visibly attractive in order to create a good impression of the town when visitors start arriving for summer and in August for the Fleadh.

‘A number of property owners are engaging positively with the council and unfortunately some are not. The matter is further complicated by the fact that some of the properties appear to have no owner.

I believe that it is now time for the council to apply the Derelict Sites Act to some properties in Narrow West Street and examine our powers of compulsory purchase under the Act. The onus is on Louth County Council to kick start the renewal of the street.’
