Bench warrant is issued for woman

-

A BENCH warrant was issued for a woman who spat in the face of a Garda calling him a ‘f **king scumbag’ after she failed to appear before Drogheda District Court for a Probation Report.

Judge John Coughlan had previously warned Kerry Smyth (23) she has to be punished for spitting in a garda’s face but said he would give her a chance to engage with the Probation Services to see if she is suitable to attend the Drugs Court.

However, at last Friday’s court sitting on April 19, the defendant had failed to appear before the court when the Probation Report was to be handed in.

The court previously heard that while Garda Evan Connolly was dealing with a prisoner at the courthouse, the defendant spat in his face.

“She called him a f **king scumbag and asked him has he nothing better to do,” said Inspector Ray Brady.

The defendant, of Beechwood Drive in Drogheda pleaded guilty to assaulting Gda Connolly under Section 2 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act at Drogheda District Court on March 24th, 2017.

She has 21 previous convictions including convictions for theft, public order and assault.
