THE Cathaoirleach of the Laytown/Bettystown area council, Paddy Meade, wants to see a safer route for those using the Rathmullen Road, down to the Boyne.

He says it is used by the likes of students from nearby St Oliver’s Community College and is getting busier and busier all the time.

‘ The likes of athletes in the Drogheda 10k use this area and it needs a proper pathway,’ he told a recent council meeting in Duleek.

‘Even if a digger could level out the bank on one side it would help pedestrians and motorists here,’ he continued.

‘It is a very popular area for walking down to Oldbridge House and we, as a district, should be encouraging that.

He says the Drogheda 10k is something that goes between both local districts and wants Meath CC to play a part in that.

Cllr Sharon Keogan agreed tbat something needed to be done as it was ‘our road’ and people used it to get to the boardwalk.

‘It’s an accident waiting to happen,’ she warned.
