Social Democrats call for local litter ‘epidemic’ to be addressed

-

LOUTH Social Democrats are the latest to add their voice to the growing call for action against the problem of litter and illegal dumping in Drogheda town.

Local area representative Robbie Corr says this issue needs to be dealt with with by the council with the highest priority.

“The current situation of illegal dumping and poor waste management around Drogheda town has grown into an epidemic,” says Mr Corr.

“This has resulted in unsightly hotspots of rubbish in several alleyways and walkways, the worst being on the North Quay and Bessexwell Lane.”

He says the party is very concerned about this situation considering the rapidly approaching Fleadh Cheoil festival which will be held in the town in August.

“Many thousands of tourists and guests will take the time to visit our wonderful town and it is vital to present the best possible image,” he adds.
