Annagassan fishing through the years

-

ANNAGASSAN Historical Society’s next lecture is on Thursday 26th April at 8.00pm in the Loft History Hall (Over Slan’s) in Annagassan. The topic of this illustrated lecture is Annagassan fishing through the years and speaker on the night is Tommy Mulroy. Tommy is passionate about fishing and its history and had done considerable research on the topic.

Tommy’s lecture will cover the local history of fishing from its earliest days to most recent times and will encompass the coastal areas from Castlebellingham to Dunany. He will detail the boats, equipment and methods used to fish for the many species caught on our coast including salmon, herring, flounder and mackerel and shellfish like cockles, lobster, razor clams, winkles and crab. It will detail the equipment and boats used in fishing together with anecdotes of those involved in the industry.

Organisers expect this to be a very popular lecture and, as places are limited, please come early. Entrance fee is €5 and includes tea/coffee (and Tommy’s famous cupcakes) afterwards. Members will have the opportunity to renew their membership for 2018 on the night and new members are always welcome.
