Jocks call a halt to Mattock’s good run

-

NH MAIRTIN MATTOCK RANGERS 0-9 1-4

MATTOCK Rangers’ bright start to the season was brought to an end on Sunday when Naomh Mairtin claimed victory at Monasterboice.

It was a strong second half display that set the visitors up for victory as they built up a healthy lead that allowed them see the game out despite the fact that Mattock scored the only goal of the game from a penalty.

The opening period proved to be a cagey affair with both teams managing to record just one point apiece.

David Reid was on target for the visitors while Brian McQuillan kicked the only score for Naomh Mairtin.

The Mairtins with the help of a strong breeze behind them pulled away in the second half.

Scores from Wayne Campbell and Sam Mulroy put a bit of distance between the two sides.

Mattock scored a late consolation goal from the penalty spot through David Reid but at that stage the result wasn’t in doubt.
