Malone makes a point for Cooley

-

COOLEY KICKHAMS DUNDALK GAELS 1-6 0-9

FEARGHAL Malone landed an injury-time point to give Cooley Kickhams a share of the spoils at Fr McEvoy Park on Sunday.

The Gaels went into the game looking to make up for their disappointing display against St Marys the previous week and inspired by points from Eanna McArdle and Sean McCann they looked to have done enough to secure the victory.

However, Cooley dug deep in the closing moments and collected their first point of the campaign when Malone held his nerve to slot over with time almost up.

This proved to be a close affair throughout although the Gaels made the better use of their scoring opportunities in the first half. However, those scores weren’t enough to give them an advantage at the break as veteran Alan Page grabbed the only goal of the game in the early stages to send the teams in level at 1-2 to 0-5.

The second half saw the teams battle to gain the initiative and with McCann and McArdle kicking six points between them, the Dundalk side appeared to have done enough only to be pegged back right at the death.
