OLIVER Plunketts made it two wins from three played when they had four points to spare over O’Connells at Mell on Saturday evening.

The visitors started better and went three points in front with scores from Stuart Osborne, Jackie Agnew and Niall Conlon. Andy Morgan got the home team’s first point of the game but a free from Robert Quigley restored the three point margin. The men from Mell came more into the game and points from Niall Murtagh and Morgan reduced the lead to one point after 15 minutes. But the Bellingham side responded with another three points from Conlon, Quigley and Conor McGill to lead by 0-7 to 0-3

However, the Plunkett finished the half on top and after points from Rory Taaffe and Josh Cormican, Adam Brodigan scored the only goal of the game to put his side 1-5 to 0-7 in front at the break.

A Quigley free not long after the start of the second half made it a level game, but on the Plunketts next attack Luke Haggins landed a ‘45’ and two more quick points from Emmet Kelleher and Conor Early opened a three point lead for the Drogheda team.

O’Connells kept at it and got the next three points from Emmet Byrne and a brace from Quigley to put them all square again 1-8 to 0-11 with ten minutes to go. Morgan put the Mell side in front again with a point but Conlon equalised for the visitors going into the last five minutes. The home side finished stronger and points from Trevor Walsh and a brace from Cian Brady put three between the teams again and a good long distance effort from Early
