Finbarrs hold off St Fechin’s

NAOMH FIONNBARRA ST FECHINS 1-10 1-9

NAOMH Fionnbarra made it two wins from three games when they held out for a one point win over St Fechins at Beaulieu on Sunday afternoon.

The home side had slightly the better of the game in the first half but the Finbarrs battled throughout to keep in touch and with the William Woods and Bernard Osborne on target they went in at the break trailing by just 0-7 to 0-4.

The Finbarrs upped the tempo at the start of the second half and were rewarded when Eoghan Osborne got through for the first goal.

Further points from play followed via Woods and Eoghan Osborne as the Barrs took the lead for the first time.

The Fechins to their credit responded with a point to reduce the deficit before Darren McConnon then received his marching orders for an off the ball offence. The Fechins were pushing hard for scored but as a result were leaving themselves open at the back and Jack Butterly took advantage with a point to put his side four clear.

The home side piled on the pressure in the closing stages and although Ronan Holcroft hit the net from a penalty to reduce the gap to one, it proved to be the last kick of the game.
