NEWTOWN BLUES

IT’S been a busy week as our U-8 boys and girls hosted O Raghallaighs, Plunketts, Nicks and Tones in their blitz.

Our senior men headed to Ardee for a league encounter and finished on top against St Mary’s with some fantastic scores. Well done lads on three out of three in the league campaign.

The Junior ladies were down the road in Hunterstown playing some great football to get a well-deserved win.

In other fixtures over the last few days, the Junior men had a great win over the Pats, and our U-12 boys were unlucky in their match against Dundalk Gaels, losing by a goal. This was the first game of the season and the lads were a bit rusty up front and just couldn’t finish a number of attacks.

Our U-12 girls took on Fechin’s in their league campaign and really got into the game in the second half but couldn’t close the gap that the Fechin’s had established in the first. There was great support and defending from the Blues girls who never gave up until the final whistle.

It was a great evening for football on Wednesday night as the sun shone at last, and with it came a good day at the office for our U14 boys and U-16 girls.

The U14 boys travelled to Dundalk to take on the Clans and it proved a very productive journey as the lads worked the ball for some fine goals and points. There was some great teamwork on display.

At home our U-16 girls took on Kilkerley. This was a great team effort as the girls played the match with only 13, missing players through injury. That didn’t put the girls off as they dug deep and ran hard for 60 minutes to finish with a well-deserved win. Well done to all our U-9 boys and girls that were busy in the Wolfe Tones in their blitz. Thanks to the Tones for hosting it.

Hard luck to our U-16 boys that travelled to Dundalk and unfortunately lost out to the Clans in a well-contested match by a point.

Lastly, our U-14 girls took on the Clans at home which resulted in a great contest. The workrate from the Blues girls was fantastic and the scores from both teams were well-worked, with a late goal for the Clans leaving the game tied at the final whistle.

Numbers drawn in last week’s lotto were 8, 9, 17, 24, the €25 winners were Kevin McDonnell, Una Walsh, Cathleen Townley, Sinead Cooley and J & P (c/o Bingo), with the jackpot for the draw this Tuesday night at €2,900. This week’s fixtures: Tuesday - U-12 Girls v N Mairtin, 7pm away.

Wed - U-16 Girls v Cooley at 7pm away; U-8 Boys & Girls Blitz at 7pm away in Darver; U-14 boys v St Fechin’s at 7.30pm home.

Thurs - U-12 Girls v Mattock Rangers at 7pm home; Senior Ladies Challenge match TBC.

Fri - U-16 voys v Colmcilles (challenge) at 6.30pm home; Senior men v Cooley at 8pm home.
