Termonfeckin goal blitz sees off neighbours
TERMONFECKIN WHITE 8 WALSHESTOWN PUMAS 2
TERMONFECKIN White proved much too strong for neighbours Walshestown Pumas in this Under-14 League encounter at Sheetland Road on Sunday.
The game started with Termonfeckin pressing and it wasn’t long before a well-worked move via the defence and midfield culminated in a well-placed pass from Cody McCauley to Aaron Sullivan who slotted home.
Termonfeckin secured their second goal soon after, with fullback Eoghan Sawyers playing a one-two with Mitchell Carroll and continuing his run before burying the ball in the net.
Walshestown came back hard but couldn’t break through the Termonfeckin defence of Andrew Smith and Shane, backed by Ben Rodgers in the sticks.
At the other end Stephan Heenan was a menacing presence down the left wing and was foiled by some good saves and the post, but Termonfeckin were rewarded when Heenan’s cross was met with a cracking volley from Cody McCauley for 3-0.
Not long after it was four when Heenan’s switch pass was played to Luke Matthews who spotted the run of Mitchell Carroll, and the winger’s finish blew the net off the goalposts.
Walshestown got one back after playing beautiful passes around the home side’s box, with their striker running onto a great pass and beating Ben Rogers inside his right-hand post.
The second half started with David Markovic in the centre of Termonfeckin’s midfield spraying balls into the attacking trio, one of which found McCauley who hammered home his second goal of the game - 5-1.
That scoreline didn’t do Walshestown justice as they kept coming, playing some beautiful balls in and around the Termonfeckin defence, but they were denied by the safe hands of Rodgers.
Conor Clinton turned creator, with himself and Sullivan involved in moves that ended with missed chances for Heenan, Carroll and Markovic.
Tariq Bradley at right-back skilfully created counter-attacks, eventually getting his reward with a superb assist for Aaron Sullivan to rifle home.
Walshestown came again and were rewarded with a superb curling shot past the fingertips of Rodgers.
Rian Jordan at left-back intercepted everything that came at him and he peppered Heenan with passes which saw the winger create chance after chance for the home team. With ten minutes left Heenan’s pass to McCauley was laid back to Luke Matthews whose screaming 30-yard shot lodged itself in the top corner - a goal of the season contender.
Walshestown’s keeper was on form with a penalty save, and at the other end the Termonfeckin captain Smith was denied by the Walshestown netminder’s fingertips only beating six opposition players down the right.
After a flawless midfield display by Markovic and Matthews, their interlinking play with McCauley saw the striker complete his hat-trick with a cool finish. TERMONFECKIN: Ben Rodgers, Eoghan Sawyers, Tariq Bradley, Shane, Andrew Smith, Rian Jordan, Luke Matthews, David Markovic, Conor Clinton, Mitchell Carroll, Stephen Heenan, Aaron Sullivan, Cody McCauley.
