Peter bowls wife over in decider

-

PETER Woods turned in a most impressive display of bowling to capture the Greenhills Charity Tournament title - beating his wife Claire in the final.

A full house turned out to see the conclusion of the competition, which had been played over 10 weeks, and it proved to be an evenly contested encounter as they were all square after three ends.

The close nature of the contest helped to produce an entertaining next two ends as Peter eventually went three up.

In the next Peter tried in vain to put in blockers to protect the head as Claire reduced the deficit to one, and after the penultimate end Claire had turned it around to lead by two shots.

However, Peter refused to be beaten and when it came to the crunch he played two excellent draw shots to a short jack which was enough to claim victory by three shots. He will nominate a charity of his choice at a later date.

Club chairman Val Maguire thanked all the players who took part in the tournament and reflected that it was competitive and concluded with an entertaining final.

The club held their agm last Thursday and outgoing chairman Val thanked the members for a good turnout and his committee colleagues for their hard work throughout the year. He welcomed incoming chairman Jack Howell for the 2018/2019 season and wished him well.
