Sally in heaven as Mariner are ‘Slane’ in league decider

-

SALLY Inn had topped the Division 3 standings decisively and they drove home their superiority with victory in the final against Drogheda counterparts Mariner B.

Thatch Lounge was the venue for this, the last league final of the season, and Owen O’Connor got the Sally ball rolling early on with a battling 2-0 win over Gerry Berrill.

Mariner came bouncing back with two victories of their own as Sean Roberts and Liam Hethrington each posted decisive wins of their own over their opponents, but Paul Maguire levelled it all up again for the Sally with a comprehensive win over Frank Murray.

and Dean Reilly restored the Drogheda side’s advantage when defeating Larry Murray in a tight fifth game, but that was as good as it got.

Three successive victories for Sally in tight enough games saw them home as James Bellew, David Martin and Derek Sheridan won their individual battles.

Sally will now compete in Division 2 next season, but they had to work hard for their victory against a very gallant and determined Drogheda team in front of another very good crowd.

Afterwards, League committee members presented Sally Inn with the perpetual trophy, individual team trophies and cash prize, while Mariner received a team plaque, team medals and cash prize and the Man of the Match award went to John Maguire of Sally Inn.

The League Committee also like to thank everyone in the Thatch Lounge, Drogheda - management and staff - for their help and assistance with this final.
