LEADER meetings for the region

-

PLANS are being put in place to host community meetings in Julianstown and Duleek to advise local groups how to access LEADER funding in an easier way.

Local councillors were given a presentation from the Meath LEADER programme recently, detailing how European funding can be delivered to rural enterprises and communities.

It was revealed that the funding can be used for enterprises, tourism, broadband, youth services and the development of renewable energy.

They also back historic homes, artisan foods, festivals and village development.

Councillors said the biggest issue feel that exists with LEADER is the ‘red tape’ and making the process easier for the people to apply was paramount.

One area that they are presently working on is the men’s shed for Slane, something welcomed by Cllr Wayne Harding.

After much discussion, it was agreed to follow the route taken in Nobber when local representatives hosted a meeting of groups to explain the mechanism of LEADER.

It was agreed to do the same for locations in the East Meath area.
