CONFIRMATION
This Thursday, April 26th is a big day in the lives of the six class pupils of Slane National School. They will receive the sacrament of confirmation in St Patrick’s Church from Bishop Michael Smith with the ceremony commencing at 3pm. In all 34 pupils will be confirmed and best wishes go to them as they take another step in the journey of life.
HISTORY TALK
‘Your Locality in the Newspapers (1750-1900)’ is the title of a talk to be given by historian Noel Carolan in which he explores what the newspapers have to say about people, events and places around Slane, Grangegeeth and surrounding areas. It will take place in the SlaneYouth Cafe, Chapel St, this Thursday April 26th at 8pm. It is a chance to hear long forgotten reports from the locality. All are welcome
SLANE & DISTRICT MEN’S SHED
Plans are at an advanced stage to set up a men’s shed in the village and a building has already been acquired down in the new Mill estate.
The building has been divided into spaces and work has commenced on setting up a workshop. Grants are also been sourced at present and if successful will allow the purchase of workshop machinery, kitchens, computers etc. Everything is expected to be up and running by September.
GAA FOR GIRLS
Slane GFC has started a new programme to introduce girls to basic exercise, movement and balance, and in coaching the basic skills of football - catch, kick solo etc. The coaching will be in a fun environment with the emphasis on enjoyment mixed with exercise. The programme is aimed at girls aged between seven and 10 years - girls born in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. Sessions are each Thursday at Slane GFC pitch from 7 pm to 7.45.
OFF BY HEART
The Francis Ledwidge Museum committee are holding the ‘Off By Heart’ poetry recital again this year, and it takes place on Sunday, June 17th, in the Conyngham Arms Hotel. A broader area will be covered this year with six schools taking part. Ledwidge Day will take place on Sunday, July 29th, in the Conyngham Arms Hotel and the theme will be World War 1
MUSIC NIGHT
Broomfield & District Men’s Shed are holding a Music Night in the Boyne Valley Inn, Slane, this Friday April 27th, at 9pm. Admission free and all are welcome. There will be a raffle with lots of great prizes.
RESTORATIVE YOGA
Welcome in Spring with some Restorative Yoga at Ananda Centre, Slane, this Saturday, April 28th at 10am. Workshop is two hours and costs€25. Suitable for all.
TIDY TOWNS AGM
Slane Tidy Towns agm takes place on Tuesday, May 8 at 8pm, upstairs in Village Inn. New members welcome. Volunteers are out working hard around the village every Monday evening and also on Saturday’s and new volunteers are always welcome.

SOSAD CYCLE
Slane Spinners are gearing themselves up for the big 10th anniversary SOSAD Cycle which will be hosted by the club. It takes place on Sunday, May 13th, and this year the cycle will start and finish at Stackallen Pitch & Putt premises where there is ample facilities for parking cars etc. The signing in fee is €20 for the 105km or 50km fun run. Sign in at 8am, start at 9.30am sharp. Helmets compulsory, soup and sandwiches on return. Online check in at eventmaster.ie
SLANE CASTLE 5K
This years Slane Castle 5k trail run/walk in aid of St Patrick’s national school takes place on Sunday, June 10th. Full details to follow.
