Berkshire-born Chesney Hawkes grew up in a performing family: his father Len was a member of The Tremeloes in the sixties, his mother Carol Dilworth an actress and gameshow hostess, and his sister Keely lead singer of 1990s band Transister. Chesney Hawkes first came to attention at 19, starring in 1991 movie ‘Buddy’s Song’, playing Buddy Clark, a teenager determined to make it as a pop star, aided by his father Terry (played by The Who’s Roger Daltrey). ‘The One And Only’ was released as a single from the film’s soundtrack which featured eleven songs all performed by Hawkes. Written and produced by eighties pop icon Nik Kershaw, the song reached the top of the charts in a number of countries, including Ireland, and was also a top ten hit in the US. ‘The One And Only’ was Hawke’s one and only major hit as he failed to break the top 20 in the UK with subsequent releases, and never charted again in the US.
