Man (65) dies after crash on N2

THE REAGHSTOWN area has been left shocked and saddened by the death of local man Tom Begley following a collision between a car and a van on the N2 at Aclint on Saturday evening, around 6pm.

Tom (65) was removed from the scene by helicopter but passed away in Beaumont Hospital on Sunday.

Gardaí are looking into the circumstan­ces of the two-vehicle collision and are appealing for witnesses.

Mr Begley was the sole occupant of the car while the occupants of the van, a man and a woman, believed to be in their 20s, were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where they were treated for non-life threatenin­g injuries.

A man from Northern Ireland was later arrested in relation to the crash and was being held in Drogheda Garda Station.

He has been questioned in relation to the incident.
