100th anniversary of death of local soldier Charles Maguire in WWI
MAY 1 this week marked the 100th anniversary of the death of Charles Maguire, a Drogheda born soldier who died of his wounds during WWI.
He lived in Liverpool and served with the 5th Battalion, The King’s (Liverpool) Regiment. He was killed in France.
Also, the anniversary takes place this year of Patrick McCabe, Princess Victoria’s (Royal Irish Fusiliers) who died on 17 July 1918 in France.
Daniel Floody must have had a story to tell. From Scarlet Street, he was 23 when he perished in WWI on September 28, 1918.
He was part of the Prince of Wales’s Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians) and died in France.
