Will market be part of the Fleadh weekend?

THERE is plenty of debate over trading in advance of the Fleadh in August with reports suggesting that the traditional Saturday morning market in Bolton Square (above) won’t be happening for the two Saturdays of the Fleadh.

The area has been earmarked as a venue for events to coincide with the Fleadh for the week, and I believe the traders have been informed as such.

But the market rights angle could be an issue here and it would be great to see the market traders accommodated in some way.

For people from outside the area - there is something very traditional about a Saturday market in a town and I’m sure the visitors to Drogheda for the Fleadh would see it as a great addition to their trip.

Maybe a time limit for the Saturday market or perhaps a location on Bolton Street would be a good resolution.

After all, there will be traffic restrictions so there shouldn’t be an issue with cars and parking.
