Five-star display too good for Shels

DROGHEDA UNITED SHELBOURNE 5 1

DROGHEDA United Under-15s continued their run of good form when they produced a five-star team display to pick up all three points against Shelbourne at United Park on Sunday.

They took their chances well and defended resolutely when they had to, and manager Morgan Kelly and his coaching team can be well satisfied with this performance.

The Drogs started positively and pressed the visiting defence at every opportunity, forcing them into passing errors, and from one these after six minutes the lively Tadgh Connolly broke through on the right and shot just wide.

The lead goal arrived on 10 minutes when Owen Murphy volleyed a clearance into the corner of the net for a great goal, only for Shels to equalise five minutes later following a goalmouth scramble.

On 19 minutes Ruari Kinsella put the Drogs back in front and two minutes later Connolly added to the lead when he finished expertly after a great run into the box - 3-1 at the interval.

On the restart Shels put the home defence under serious pressure with what seemed to be an unending series of frees and corners, but the Boynesiders stood firm and looked dangerous on breakaways.

The hosts added to their lead 20 minutes into the half when Luke Caffrey got his head to a dangerous cross from Sean Buchanan and the ball flew into the top corner of the net.

Then, five minutes from time, Buchanan provided a pinpoint pass to Caffrey which split the Shels defence and he expertly finished to the corner of the net to seal a very impressive victory. DROGHEDA UNITED:
