Red Door Project cleans up ‘Adopted Dale’ area

-

ONE of the town’s most historic areas, which has been ravaged in recent years by antisocial behaviour, illegal dumping and graffiti is to receive a facelift thanks to a locally organised initiative.

The Red Door Project on the Dublin Road in Drogheda has ‘Adopted the Dale’ and pledged to undertake regular cleaning in the area.

The idea is part of a drive by Drogheda Tidy Towns, which linked up with resident’s groups and voluntary organisations to create a new approach to improving the overall look of the town.

“The participants in the Red Door volunteered their services to clean up the historic area of the Dale and create an amenity for people to enjoy,” says Mayor Pio Smith, speaking on behalf of the project based in the Old St Mary’s Convent.

“Unfortunately, over the years the Dale has been blighted by graffiti and has been allowed to decay to some extent. The Red Door participants intend to reverse this decline and bring a sense of beauty and pride back to this historic area.”

Drogheda received its tenth Gold Medal in the National Tidy Towns in 2017 and the committee is very proud of this level of achievement which reflects very positively on all the citizens of our town. They’re also in talks with a number of resident’s associations, schools and voluntary groups who have said they are willing to play their part as well in taking on a part of the town.

“2018 will be a vitally important year for Drogheda as the Fleadh is expected to bring up to 450,000 visitors to our town,” says Cllr Kevin Callan, Chairperson of Drogheda Tidy Towns.

“This will be a one-off opportunity to create a long lasting image of our town and its people and we are delighted that Red Door have been in touch and will start to transform and restore a very historic part of Drogheda which for many years has not received the attention it deserves.

“It would mean that all the approach roads and the main arteries into town are given particular attention which would be of great benefit for the Fleadh.”

The Tidy Towns committee is stil asking residents’ associations to partake in the campaign.

Any local groups that would like to assist the Tidy Towns committee with their clean ups can contact them via their Facebook page or at 087 7776648.
