Jobs investment needed in town too

MAJOR jobs investment in Drogheda, South Louth and East Meath continues to fall short of the needs of the local population - many of whom still find themselves commuting to Dublin every day.

That’s the view of Anthony Moore, PRO, FF South Louth and East Meath, who says last week’s announcement that WuXi Biologics is to invest €325 million in the construction of a new biologics plant in Dundalk is great news - but what’s wrong with the population driven South Louth/ East Meath area?

‘While we welcome investment in County Louth at any time, we in Fianna Fail in South Louth and East Meath are deeply disappointed that the government and the IDA failed to bring this company to Drogheda. They ignored us yet again. The company will employ 400 people when it is up and running and around 700 construction jobs will be involved in building the plant.

‘Drogheda is crying out for jobs like this. Despite being the biggest town in Ireland, it remains an unemployment blackspot. Despite having a Fine Gael TD from Drogheda, we are seeing no action from the government to change that. We refuse to be treated as a second-class city and we demand action from the government to ensure that we get our fair share of jobs and investment when companies are seeking to set up business in County Louth,’ he stated.
