Checkmate! - St Joseph’s boys are kings of the chess board

I MUST congratula­te the All-Ireland champions from St Joseph’s Secondary School.

The school chess team won the National Chess Championsh­ip for Secondary Schools in Roscrea, consisting of 5th year Conor Reynolds, 3rd years Luke Munster and Nikita Koush and TY student Paul Ziehmer.

The team recently beat Drogheda Grammar to achieve the title of Leinster champions and qualify for the National Finals.

The Joey’s boys pipped De La Salle Waterford and Rochestown College, Cork.

Credit must also go to St Joseph’s Chess club coach and retired caretaker Mr Brendan Reilly who runs St Joseph’s chess club in the school every Wednesday lunch time.
