ROCHE EMMETS O’CONNELL’S

ROCHE Emmets picked up their first league points of the season when they had five points to spare over O’Connell’s at Pairc de Roiste on Saturday afternoon.

Dean Corrigan got the first point of the game for the visitors, but that was quickly cancelled out by Kevin Callaghan for the home side.

O’Connell’s landed the next four points through Jackie Agnew, Conor Kiernan and a brace from Conor McGill, before Cathal Byrne got Roche’s second score of the game after 20 minutes.

Both teams were guilty of a lot of wayward shooting before a Callaghan free cut the lead to two, but Dean Stanfield increased the margin to three - 0-3 to 0-6. Roche finished the first half strongly, though, and points from Shane Byrne and David Quigley left just one between them at the break - 0-6 to 0-5 in favour of O’Connell’s.

Dan O’Connell brought the sides level early in the second half, but the visitors replied with the next two points from Jason Carroll and Corrigan.

Points from Callaghan and Liam Dawe for Roche and a brace of frees from Stuart Osbourne for O’Connells left the score at 0-8 to 0-10 after 45 minutes. However, the home team were finding a lot more space now and they scored the next four points through Conor
