SLANE TIDY TOWNS

The monthly draw for April was held in the Boyne Valley Inn and the winners were - €100 Gerry Hand, €60 Peter Mooney, €50 Ged McGuinness,€40 Michelle Duffy, €30 Robbie Berrill. The Tidy Towns agm takes place on this evening Tuesday, May 8 at 8pm, upstairs in the Village Inn. New members welcome. Volunteers are out working hard around the village every Monday evening and also on Saturday’s and new volunteers are always welcome.

SOSAD CYCLE

Slane Spinners big 10th anniversar­y SOSAD Cycle takes place this Sunday, May 13th, and you can still register online at eventmaste­r or on the morning of the cycle. The cycle will start and finish at Stackallen Pitch & Putt premises where there is ample facilities for parking cars etc. The signing in fee is €20 for the 105km or 50km fun run. Sign in at 8am, start at 9.30am sharp. Helmets compulsory, soup and sandwiches on return.

GLAMOUR & GLITZ

Rathkenny Ladies and juvenile GFC present an Evening of Glamour & Glitz in Tankardsto­wn House on Monday, May 21st, starting at 7pm. It promises to be a fun filled evening with beauty and hair tips, nutrition info, ladies & gents fashion show, pop-up shops, makeovers, raffles and lots more. Tickets €25

DARKNESS INTO LIGHT

Darkness into Light Navan is the flagship fundraiser for Pieta House and it takes place at Navan Rugby Club on Saturday, May 12th, at 4.15am. This year all registrati­on is online at dil.pieta.ie There will be no late registrati­on on the morning of the walk.

LOUGH DERG PILGRIMAGE

HILLOF SLANE TOURS

Hill of Slane Tours have recommence­d for the season with tours every Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday’s, starting at 2pm, from the car park on the Hill. Tours at other times are available by arrangemen­t and groups can also be catered for. Please email hillofslan­etours@ yahoo.com

SUPPORT THE ROSARY

The Rosary and Devine Mercy Chaplet will be recited every Thursday at 7pm in the Youth Cafe (beside the church). Please come and support this effort for world peace.

GAA FOR GIRLS

Slane GFC has started a new programme to introduce girls to basic exercise, movement and balance, and in coaching the basic skills of football - catch, kick solo etc. The coaching will be in a fun environmen­t with the emphasis on enjoyment mixed with exercise. The programme is aimed at girls aged between seven and 10 years - girls born in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. Sessions are each Thursday at Slane GFC pitch from 7 pm to 7.45.

OFF BY HEART

The Francis Ledwidge Museum committee are holding the ‘Off By Heart’ poetry recital again this year, and it takes place on Sunday, June 17th, in the Conyngham Arms Hotel. A broader area will be covered this year with six schools taking part. Ledwidge Day will take place on Sunday, July 29th, in the Conyngham Arms Hotel and the theme will be World War 1.

WALKING GROUP

Broomfield & District Residents Walking Group have resumed their Tuesday evening walks from 7 - 8pm. These are flat road and off road walks by rivers, lakes and woodland and are suitable to all walking abilities. Male and female walkers of all ages welcome. SLANE CASTLE 5K

This years Slane Castle 5k trail run/walk in aid of St Patrick’s national school takes place on Sunday, June 10th. Full details to follow.

DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES

Led by Bishop Michael Smith, the diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes takes place from September 12th to 17th. Pilgrim fare is €749 including return flights and five nights full board. Duleek/Bellewstow­n Active Retirement would like to congratula­te the Bowls Team for their recent success and bringing home a lovely trophy. In the coming weeks, Duleek Foróige will announce additional screenings of their acclaimed documentar­y “Rememberin­g Childhoods of Times Past” featuring local personalit­ies; Cathy McGrane, Michael Brodigan, Jim Curley, Jimmy Lynch and Mary Connell. It is also intended to produce a DVD of this documentar­y - which recently won a National Gold Award at a Foróige Awards Ceremony!! This DVD will be available for purchase in the coming weeks.
