Damage must be paidfor
A man who crashed into a parked car before leaving the scene, must pay the near €4,000 damage he caused or go to jail.
That’s a warning which has been given to Lee Wade (20), 14 The Park, Highlands, Drogheda, following an incident which occurred at The Drive, Riverbank, on 5 June, 2017.
The defendant was up on three hit and run charges, as well as careless driving, driving without insurance, no driving licence and failure to produce insurance and a licence.
The car he struck was knocked to the other side of the road. The offending vehicle’s registration plate was left behind.
Further into the estate, gardaí found the car in question and as they awaited a tow-truck a man approached them.
He said he owned the vehicle and was a passenger in it at the time. It was driven by a friend of his, Lee Wade, he added.
Wade subsequently contacted the garda station by phone and admitted being involved in a collision.
When officers called to the house he again said, under caution, he was the driver and made a statement.
Sgt Ray Brady said just shy of €4,000 damage was caused to the other car.
Judge Coughlan said he wants the injured party compensated before adjourning the case to 13 July next for an exact figure to be determined.
