DROGHEDA man Christopher ‘Sonny’ Kierans will be the guest of honour at the Irish embassy in Rome this week as he marks his retirement from his role in the Vatican.

He has spent over 40 years in the city, playing a leading role in introducing people to the delights of the city and especially if they need assistance regarding everything to do with the Vatican.

Brother Kierans, who departed for Rome in 1973 - becoming a big Lazio fan - will be feted for his wonderful work at the embassy and he’ll have plenty of ‘ home’ support with him.

Members of the Drogheda Male Voice choir are in Rome for six days as part of the event and will be performing on the day.

They have already made an impact, singing at mass in the Irish College on Sunday morning and at the 5.15pm mass in St Peter’s Basilica later the same day.

Mayor Pio Smith is part of the group.
