NEWTOWN BLUES NAOMH MAIRTIN 4-11 1-12

NEWTOWN Blues stretched their winning run to five games with victory over Naomh Mairtin on Friday evening to increase their lead at the top of the table.

The county champions were slow to get going on this occasion and trailed by three at the interval but came strong in the second half as a three-goal salvo saw them secure victory. With second placed Clan na Gael suffering defeat on the same night the Drogheda side are now three clear of the chasing pack.

The game at Monasterboice saw the hosts impress in the opening half with a goal from JP Rooney helping them to a 1-7 to 1-4 advantage at the break. However, the Blues were very much in contention thanks to a goal from Ian Connor.

The Jocks were unable to maintain that momentum after the break despite the scoring threat of Rooney and Eoghan Callaghan as the Blues took command.

Robert Carr led the way in terms of point scoring and he also added a goal to bring his tally to 1-5, while Connor fired in a second goal and John Kermode also hit the net to complete the victory.
