Evan’s late equaliser an almighty relief for St Patrick’s

ST PATRICKS DUNDALK GAELS 0-7 0-7

EVAN White was the hero for St Pats as he landed an injury-time point to secure a third draw of the season for his side at home to Dundalk Gaels on Friday evening.

The Lordship side have been making a habit of fading towards the end of games in recent times but they turned the tables on this occasion to fight back from a three-point deficit in the final quarter.

The Dundalk men looked to be heading for victory when Jason Clarke fired over a point from play on 46 minutes to put his side into a 0-7 to 0-4 lead.

However, the Pats responded in impressive fashion and scores from Paddy Keenan and Cathal Grogan gave them hope before White sent over the late equaliser to earn a share of the spoils for the home side.

It was White who began the scoring after just a minute but the Gaels then enjoyed a good spell as they fired over three points to lead by 0-3 to 0-1.

In a game where the defences were on top, the Pats hit back through Sean McGeough and Jason Woods to level matters at 0-3 apiece at the half-time interval.

It was a similar pattern in the second half as they Gaels had the better of the early exchanges and put themselves in a good position to secure victory only to be denied by the late revival from the Pats.

The draw keeps both sides in the hunt for O’Donnell Cup spots, but they are also looking anxiously over their shoulders at the relegation placings.
