DREADNOTS CLAN NA GAEL 3-12 1-8

DREADNOTS moved into second place in the table when they inflicted a first defeat of the season on Clan na Gael at Castletown on Friday night.

It was an impressive team performance from the Clogherhead side and after taking a grip of the game in the first half when they reeled off eight unanswered points, they never looked like losing.

The visitors were first off the mark through James Califf but the Clans, who were looking to keep the pressure on Newtown Blues at the top of the table, hit back with three in a row.

However, it was at that stage that the Dreadnots moved up a gear and kicked eight successive points through Peter Kirwan, Pepe Smith and Califf to lead by 0-9 to 0-3 at half time.

The Clogher side built on that advantage in the third quarter as Liam Shevlin and Carl Monaghan found the net to give their side a healthy advantage.

The Clans showed great determination to battle back into contention as a goal from Billy Smith and three unanswered points gave them hope of taking something from the game.

However, that hope was dashed by the visitors as Cathal Lynch got on the end of a fine team move to blast the ball to the net.

Then a couple of late points from Califf saw them complete the victory.
