MATTOCK RANGERS SEAN O’MAHONYS 0-12 0-10

MATTOCK Rangers joined Dreadnots and Clan na Gael in second place in the Division 1 table after coming through against Sean O’Mahonys in a tight encounter at the Point Road on Friday night.

It was another disappointing night for the O’Mahonys whose form has dipped since winning their opening two games of the campaign. As a result of this reverse they have now lost three successive matches in the league.

The only positive for the Dundalk side is that they have been competitive in all their outings but have just been unable to take the scores when it counts and this was another example of them coming out on the wrong side of a close contest.

From a Mattock point of view it was also another example of the value of David Reid to the team as he kicked eight points to ensure his side recorded their third win of the season and keep pace with the top four.

The former Louth player was instrumental in helping his side lead by 0-7 to 0-6 at half time. Aaron O’Brien and Ben McKenna also chipped in with points over the hour as the visitors held out in the closing stages to pick up another vital win.

The O’Mahonys hopes suffered a setback when they lost Ben McLaughlin to a second yellow card, but they will be happy to have seen Shane Brennan make his return from injury.
