ST FECHIN’S ST KEVIN’S 1-16 1-6

ST FECHIN’S kept their opponents scoreless in the first half and finished 10-point winners despite a spirited late rally from St Kevin’s at Beaulieu last Wednesday night.

Shayleen McDonagh, Stabannon ahead at the break on a scoreline of 3-7 to 1-5.

Siobhan Giggins got the second half off to an excellent start as she dominated the middle of the field and was rewarded as her shot went between the posts.

Excellent defending by Stabannon prevented St. Brides from scoring and Danielle Sharkey and Jenny McGuinness added two more points to the scoreboard.

At the other end St. Brides had worked the ball up the field and an excellent save by Catherine McGlew and Hazel Haughney were among the early scorers for the home side before Sharon McDermott raised a green flag with an excellent strike.

St Kevin’s couldn’t halt the momentum and further points from Rebecca Howell, Roisin Kavanagh and Orla McEvoy put Fechin’s into a commanding 1-10 to 0-0 interval lead.

For a while the onslaught continued on the restart as McGlew, McDonagh, Haughney and Howell all registered scores from play, while Rachel Kinch contributed immensely with her excellent distribution.

Somehow St Kevin’s lifted the siege in the latter stages and they found the net themselves with a cracking goal, made possible by an excellent pass from Paula Murray.

The Philipstown ladies didn’t stop there as they lifted the bad look off the scoreline with six points in the final 10 minutes.

ST FECHIN’S: Sharon McDermott 1-1; Shayleen McDonagh, Hazel Haughney 0-3 each; Catherine McGlew, Rebecca Howell, Roisin Kavanagh, Rachel Kinch 0-2 each; Orla McEvoy 0-1.
