Double success for the Cilles

-

ST COLMCILLE’S ladies completed a high-scoring double in the opening round of the Meath Intermediate and Junior C championships.

They were winners against Moynalvey at intermediate level, 6-7 to 1-3, while the juniors completed a great week for the club with victory over Dee Rangers, 4-19 to 2-9.

THE Cille’s dominated the Moynalvey encounter from the start and had early points from Hannah Tobin Jones, Dawn O’Reilly and a goal from Hannah Connell.

Orla Deegan and Hannah Tobin Jones added further opening-half goals to lead by 10 points at the break.

The second half was just two minutes old when Hannah Tobin Jones hit the net again and the dominance continued until the final whistle, with Cliona Smith and Dawn O’Reilly adding goals for Cille’s in the final quarter.

Over at Meath Hill, the concession of a goal and a point in the early stages failed to prevent St Colmcille’s recording a facile win in the opening round of the Junior C.

The Seasiders could have been further behind but for the efforts of keeper Grainne Reilly before they took control of the game to lead 3-9 to 1-2 at the break. The goals came from Tara McHugh, Tess O’Neill and Alison Boyle, while Ashling Dyer hit six points in that opening half.

Dee Rangers opened strongly after the interval but were unable to make any impact on St Colmcille’s lead. Ashling Dyer added another six points to her first-half tally, while the second half goal came near the finish from Alison Boyle.
