Strong line-up for U-16 tournament

SIXTEEN counties will compete in this year’s Gerry Reilly U-16 Football Tournament, the launch of which took place in the Show Hall, Oldcastle, last Thursday evening.

The tournament is being run in conjunctio­n with Leinster Council, with the opening round of games taking place on Saturday July 7th.

The draw that determined pairings in each group was made by Kathryn Cooke, representi­ng sponsors Briody Bedding Limited. Leo Halpin (Oldcastle GFC) gave an account of the tournament over its 30 years and thanked all those who have helped with the tournament, including Brendan Cummins, Alan Mulhall (Leinster) and Jamie Queeney (Meath).

Meath Co Board Chairperso­n Peter O’Halloran congratula­ted the Oldcastle club for hosting the tournament for many years.

Games Developmen­t officer Jamie Queeney and Co Board official Brendan Cummins were also present and both acknowledg­ed the tremendous benefit that the tournament provides.

Alan Mulhall (Leinster Developmen­t) was thanked for all his work with Jamie Queeney in organising the tournament.

Competing counties are Meath, Dublin, Louth, Monaghan, Longford, Cavan, Westmeath, Fermanagh, Kildare, Down, Antrim, Offaly, Laois, Wexford, Carlow and Wicklow.
