COUNTY Louth Golf Club and Drogheda’s d Hotel have announced an exciting new sponsorship agreement for the East of Ireland Amateur Open Championship, to be held at the renowned Baltray links from Saturday June 2nd to Monday 4th.

The agreement heralds a new partnership between the club and the hotel which will be mutually beneficial to both parties, and which extends beyond the championship to include a new ‘Stay and Play’ package designed to attract more golfers to the area.

Rory McNulty, General Manager of the d Hotel, commented: ‘We are delighted to be associated with such an important and prestigious event in the golf calendar year.

‘County Louth Golf Club has a strong reputation of being one of the finest links courses in Ireland and we look forward to developing a great partnership with the club, and to providing great hospitality and accommodation for golfers from home and abroad.’

The East of Ireland Championship has been played at County Louth GC since 1941, when the great Joe Carr lifted the inaugural trophy. He would go on to win the title on a further 11 occasions.

It has become one of the most coveted titles among amateur golfers, with four rounds of stroke play putting the very best players to the ultimate test.

Previous winners include Darren Clarke and Paul Dunne, while defending champion Reece Black (Templepatrick) will be hoping to retain his hard-earned title. However, he will face one of the strongest fields in recent years, with overseas players from Argentina, Australia, South Africa and several European countries already featuring on the entry list.

Commenting on the new sponsorship, County Louth Club Captain Pat McCabe stated: ‘The club is delighted to have the d Hotel Drogheda on board to support us in presenting a superb test of golf for our best amateur players.

‘The club and the hotel share the same ethos of providing topclass facilities and service to our patrons and we look forward to a long and fruitful partnership that will be beneficial to both.’

Once again the running of the championship will be in the capable hands of the Golfing Union of Ireland – Leinster Branch, and further details relating to the tournament, including all entry details, can be viewed in the Tournaments section of www.golfnet.ie.
