It was a magical evening at Duleek Parish Choir’s recent concert in St Cianan’s Church, which raised €3,000 for vital repairs to the church.

Around 250 people squeezed into the church to listen to songs by the choir aswell as some superb individual performances by younger members.

The concert was described as ‘a musical journey’ and went by the title ‘All In The April Evening’ . It took it’s name from the poem written by Dublin poet Katharine Tynan-Hinkinson.

The poem is about the death of Christ on Good Friday and it became more popular when it was set to music by Sir Hugh Roberton.

The evening was organised by Gráinne Diskin, who prepared the singers for their performances, and she was delighted with how it went.

“It was a beautiful evening, very special. We performed many songs and we told stories about individual singers when they were singing on their own, which made it very enjoyable for everyone”, she said.

“There was a story behind each performance. The younger singers just performed without fear. Calum Agnew and Una O’Boyle sang on their own and they were absolutely fantastic.

“We had a great reaction from the crowd and raised plenty of money for the repairs to the church, so it was a very successful evening”, she concluded.
