Gate cinema staff event
January 1966
ON Friday night last, in Stameen House Hotel, Drogheda. the staff of the local Gate Cinema held their annual Dinner Dance to which they invited a number of outside friends. As in previous years, the function proved an outstanding success, with all present thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Free of all speechmaking, the function got off the ground with cocktails, rose to enjoyable heights with a delicious dinner, promptly and efficiently served, and then remained dizzily aloft for some hours as guests danced to the music of Louis Smith and his orchestra. It was back to the home pad for everyone at about 3 a.m. on Saturday and those with the energy left to comment, were then voting it a “night of nights” and one to be remembered for many months to come.
People like Mr. and Mrs. John Davis, Mrs. K. Campbell. Mr. Robbie Roden and Mrs. Roden, Mr. P. Duggan, Mrs. J. O’Reilly, and M’sses A. Smith, C. Owen and J. Campbell helped make it a great success.
Making a very pretty impace on the scene was Miss Betty Halligan, of Dunleer who was voted Miss Cinema at the recent Gate Cinema Staff Dance. Also present were the runners up in this contest, Miss Lynda Ouigley of Drogheda and Miss Jo Brady of Oldtown. Their judges were also present, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Collins of Independent Films and Mr. Kevin Brown of Walt Disney Productions.
Others present Included, the Mayor, Aid. Peter Moore.
