DUNLEER AND DISTRICT HISTORICAL SOCIETY
A lecture on the Great Northern Railway G.N.R. in County Louth - A Pictorial Journey 18761958. Lecture by Jonathan Clinton in St. Brigid’s Hall, Dunleer at 8.00pm Wednesday, May 23rd.
TULLYNALLY CASTLE
On Sunday 27th May, D&DHS will run a tour outing to Tullynally Castle, County Westmeath.
Located a couple of kilometres outside Castlepollard, Tullynally Castle has been home to the Pakenham family for over 350 years. Its present owners are Thomas and Valerie Pakenham.
Thomas Pakenham is an author of several books on trees and is a founder member of the Irish Tree Society.
The estate includes 12 acres of magnificent gardens divided between walled gardens, woodland garden and ornamental lakes.
There are Tea Rooms located in the Courtyard of the Castle which contain an extensive menu of snacks and lunch. (not included in tour fee)
The tour will also include a stop off at the Monastic Fore Valley where one can learn of the Seven Wonders of Fore and Abbey founded by St. Fechin. Excursion price including private bus, admission to Castle tour and Gardens is: adults € 25.00 and children € 18.00.

The Dunleer Golf Society visited Killeen Castle GC on Sunday 6th May. Thirty eight members competed for the President’s Prize on a very sunny morning with Gary Broughton, President,
Jeanne Connolly, Captain and Ray Moore, Hibernia Steel Sponsor leading the charge.
The President’s Prize was won by Ciaran Reynolds 35 points just piping David Myles on the
Back 9. The prizes were presented that evening in Shearman’s, Dunleer.

The Dunleer Men’s Shed always welcome new members to the Shed for activity and recreation at your ease. Men of any age who are available can join the Shed which could include unemployed, retired men.
It opens each Tuesday morning at 10 am at the coach house to the back of the Market House so why not drop in anytime you are passing.
