HISTORIC STREET ART PLANNED
BARRACK LANE TO BE TRANSFORMED INTO A PATHWAY TO HISTORY
A wall on Barrrack Lane, overgrown with weeds for many years, has been transformed into a perfect canvas for a stunning new work.
Late last year, Noel Bailey of the Old Drogheda Society helped launch a campaign to clean up the wall, with the local tidy towns group and students from St Mary’s DS helping out.
They cleared away a lot of weeds and overhanging trees.
Since then, the wall has been painted to provide a perfect backdrop to soon to be undertaken works.
Darren Finnegan’s team of artists hope to get working on the wall.
Noel says he’d love suggestions of people to feature from Drogheda’s past, but the likes of the river Boyne, the Vikings, Normans, Millmoount, the poet Amhairgin, St Oliver Plunkett and even Cromwell and King Billy could feature.
‘ The idea is that it will feature murals of those associated with Drogheda’s past,’ he remarked.
Murtagh’s supplied the paint and the likes of Eddie Tuite backed the plan with the support of residents.
