10-year driving ban

-

‘IF not suitable for community service you can rot away in Mountjoy,’ a 24-year-old motorist has been warned.

Andrew Markham, Brabazon Bay, Golf Links Road, Bettystown, pleaded guilty to driving without insurance on 22 February, 2017 in Baltray and again on the following 18 May at Marsh Road, Drogheda.

The court heard he was disqualified from driving at the time. ‘ This is gross contempt of court’ Judge Coughlan said. He imposed a 10-year driving disqualification before adjourning the case to 19 October for probation and community service reports. He indicated a sentence of 240 hours community service in lieu of five months imprisonment.

In a separate case, Markham pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of MDMA and unlawful possession of cannabis at Pilltown, Laytown on 1 November, 2016.

That matter was also put back to 19 October next.

The defendant got legal aid.
