Niamh Anne enjoys Pittsburgh visit
NIAMH Ann Kelly is a sixth year student in Our Lady`s College, Greenhills and after winning the Sentinus Young Innovators (Northern Ireland Young Scientist), she had the opportunity recently to represent Ireland at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh, America.
This is the largest pre-college science competition in the world, with 1,792 competitors presenting 1,320 projects from eighty-one countries competing this year.
Niamh investigated if tree bark extracts have the potential to inhibit the growth of several bacteria, including the bacteria which causes Bleeding Canker disease in horse chestnut trees.
Niamh won third place in the Plant Sciences category and had an amazing experience in Pittsburgh throughout the week of the event.
