Long term Traveller plan for Drogheda progressing

-

ALL 174 Traveller housing applicants were consulted as part of a council led review on accommodation requirements, Director of Housing Joe McGuinness told the monthly meeting of Louth County Council.

Following the detailed review, a report from the Local Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committee (LTACC) was before the council for adoption.

The report included a number of extra provisions including: an extension to an existing house, and an additional new house in the Naughton Close group housing scheme; and three new dwellings in the Woodland Park group housing scheme.

Director of Housing, Joe McGuinness told the meeting that two new sites had also been identified in Dundalk, which consisted of three dwellings each, in new Traveller Group Housing Schemes.

He added that work on a long term plan for a halting site in Drogheda was also progressing, along with the provision of an additional basic service bay in the Woodland Park halting site.

Cllr Frank Godfrey said it was acknowledged that providing accommodation was a ‘ huge challenge’ adding that the housing group scheme model was the best all round option.

Cllr. Anne Campbell, a member of the LTACC, along with Cllr. Liam Reilly and Cllr. Dolores Minogue, said that she was happy to propose the report be adopted by the council.

She said the committee were working hard to ensure that all of the families would be housed as soon as possible.

Cllr. Dolores Minogue offered her support for the report to be adopted, as did Cllr. Reilly who added that it had been a ‘massive undertaking’ by the council’ and was happy to see it being adopted.
