Body of 4,000 year old Bronze Age man found at Brookside

-

A STORY from 40 years ago and intriguing it remains.

The estate at Brookside in Bettystown - which is pretty central - was being developed and what did the project reveal - a bronze age man, dating back 3,500 to 4,000 years.

One of the residents at the time, D. G. Ryder, said the estate was “still in the Dark Ages.”

It had, he complained, no street lighting of any description - despite . the fact that folowing considerable agitation lights were promised for July 1977.

“Add to this spectre” he said, “uncompleted footpaths, potholes and lakes of water and mud and you get some idea of what the residents are forced to contend with.’

These conditions, he claimed, are well known to their local public representatives, to the builders, the E.S.B. and Meath Co. Council, “but nobody cares.’

No doubt, Brookville has improved considerably over the last 40 years, but what became of the Bronze Age man I wonder.
