Jocks edge high-scoring clash with St Mary’s

-

NAOMH MAIRTIN ST MARYS 3-16 0-15

NAOMH Mairtin moved into the top four on their own after coming out on top in a high-scoring encounter with St Marys in Ardee.

The Mairtins suffered a surprise defeat at home to St Brides in their previous outing but produced the perfect response as they proved too strong for the opposition on this occasion.

Once again JP Rooney was in fine form in front of the posts and he grabbed two first half goals to ensure his side went in at the break leading by 2-7 to 0-8.

Ronan Carroll and Dean Matthews led the response for the Marys as they both finished with five points. However, they were unable to find the goals needed to get back into the game as the Mairtins always remained in control.

The victory was sealed in the second half when Sam Mulroy scored a third goal for the visitors.
