Louth’s brave Leinster bid falls short

-

LOUTH’S bid for Leinster Junior glory came up short on Saturday as in-form Carlow side clinched the title in the glorious Offaly sunshine.

Carlow duo of Ciara Kavanagh and her Mount Leinster Rangers clubmate Eimear Byrne wreaked havoc all afternoon, scoting 3-9 between the them.

They hit a purple patch midway through the half, netting two goals in as many minutes, but with Aoife Gregory and Denise Moynagh in good scoring form the Reds were still in touch at the break, trailing by 3-2 to 0-7.

However, seven unanswered points in the first ten minutes of the second period set the Barowsiders on the road to victory.

Aoife Gregory continued her great form with a further three points and was joined on the scoreboard in the second half by fellow St Kevins player Aisling Matthews with a classic point from play.

Laura Byrne did net a goal for Louth, but Carlow were never really troubled despite a gutsy display from the Reds.
