Cille’s scoop Irish language award
THE Coiste Cultúrtha na Mí awards night was held recently where clubs and individuals who are endeavouring to promote Irish language, culture and heritage within their organisation were recognised.
The audience were entertained with music and song from St Brigid’s GFC, Trim GFC, Una Ni Mhisteil Trim GFC and Slane GFC Ballad group, all of whom had represented their clubs in the Scór competitions.
Denise Morgan, Meath Irish Cultural officer, was MC for the evening and after welcoming all to the event proceeded with the individual presentations. During the evening the late Tony McDonnell perpetual cup was presented to Pat Farrelly, CLG Áth Troim, for his contribution to the Irish Language and Culture in Co Meath.
Following on from this, the late Mairtin MacDonagh Cup was presented to St Colmcille’s for their tireless work to promote the Irish language and culture within their club and parish.
Ita Ní Chionnaith, past president of Conradh na Gaeilge, was a guest on the night and Ita briefly spoke about her work, about Conradh’s vision for Meath and complimented the county on their work carried out to date.
The final presentation of the evening was made to Cathal Seoighe, Clann na nGael, for his outstanding contribution to our language, culture and heritage throughout the county for many years. He was one of the driving forces behind the revival of Scór throughout the county.
Brendán Mac Gabhann was also presented with a framed county jersey in recognition of his All-Ireland Recitation Scór Sinsir win in Sligo this year.
The Cultural and Scór committees wish to thank everyone for their generous sponsorship of prizes for a raffle, to Seamus Connolly/Meath GAA for providing the refreshments, Navan O’Mahony’s for use of the facilities and John Quirke for the photography.
