Slow-starting Drums pay price again
KILMAINHAMWOOD DRUMCONRATH 3-10 1-11
ONCE again a poor start proved Drumconrath’s undoing in this league tie against their north Meath neighbours.
Kilmainhamwood had 1-3 on the board before Tomás Conlon pointed after 10 minutes and Drums then conceded another goal.
While the returning Daniel Byrne pointed three times the visitors still trailed 0-4 to 2-5 and the sides exchanged scores after that, with Sean McMahon on target for Drumconrath, as the Wood led 2-6 to 0-5 at the break.
Kilmainhamwood restarted best - with a goal and a point in quick succession - before another Byrne point left 10 between the teams.
Drumconrath enjoyed their best spell in the final 20 minutes as they out-scored the hosts 1-5 to 0-3.
Pado Farrelly struck for the goal and also added a point, while Byrne, Stephen Crosby (two) and Chris Tighe were also on target during this dominant period.
