EAST HAM BOYS PROVE THE BEST

-

August 1972

EAST Ham scored a rather easy success over B.M.V. to collect their first trophy in the Drogheda United Summer League in a very disappointing final, by three clear goals.

Final nerves must have affected the losers as they never reached the form of previous matches, being rather slow in their movements and passes going astray and taking too long in building up attacks, with the result they played into the hands of the strong-tackling East Ham defence, who made the ball do the work.

East Ham were on their game from the start and set the seal on their success by scoring all their goals in the first half, which left B.M.V. with a big fight on their hands for the second period, which they could never overcome.

P. Carr. S. Barry and H. Reilly were the goalscorers for East Ham, who had good performers in the Corr brothers, C. Kennedy. M. Behan and S. Barry, with K. O’Neill, T. Cooney. J. Gregory and J. McCann best for the losers.

Brugha 1 CI.E 0

The first semi-final of the First Division between Brugha and C.I.E. saw the former gain a narrow 1-nil success. C.I.E. were so much superior in this match. they had enough chances to win hands down, but continued to waste opportunities, and in the end could blame nobody but themselves. T. Garry got the all-important score to take Brugha through.

A.C.P 5 Ushers 1

A.C.P. gave a very workmanlike performance when winning the second semi-final by 5-1 against Ushers.

This was A.C.P.’s best performance of the league and on this display the final between A.C.P. and Brugha has all the makings of a real thriller.

The same two teams have also to meet in the league final.

Ushers once again failed to live up to expectations when it comes to the final stages and never reached their previous form.

L. Nawn had a hat-trick for the winners , with S. Mulroy getting the other two. B. McKcown replying for Ushers.
